The Mizushima Ironworks

The piles of coal are watered down daily to reduce the air pollution from coal dust.

Coal is burned to produce the heat needed in the blast furnaces.  Computer aided systems control the operation of the blast furnaces.

The control booth for the entire plant.  A system of TV cameras allows the operators to visually follow the entire production process while computers continuously inform the operators about the chemical and metallurgical reactions that are taking place inside the blast furnaces.
